Road Repairs to begin at:

200 Block of Main Street
Emerado Fire Department

Beginning the week of July 7th, the Emerado Volunteer Fire Department will begin much needed repairs to the driveway and ramp leading into the fire station. Over the years the ramp has deteriorated due to the weight of the fire trucks driving in and out of the building. The repair has been deemed emergent and necessary to allow the emergency crews to continue to serve our city and the surrounding communities and is being paid for by the Fire Department. It has been determined that the washout exists underneath the fire station ramp which may fail at any time, causing the fire trucks to sink into the earth, preventing response and causing damage to the apparatus or injury to the firefighters.

Along with the washout below the fire station ramp, it has been determined that the same washout may exist under the roadway in front of the fire station, posing the same threat to the responders. The Emerado City Council has ordered repairs to be made to Main Street directly in front of the fire station and is being paid for through the infrastructure funds in the City Budget. While there are many other road repairs that are necessary, this project was deemed essential to public safety, and a top priority.

The extent of these washouts is unknown at this time; however, it is known that the washout is severe enough that the road surface can be witnessed sinking an alarming one (1) inch each time a vehicle operates over the area. With this section of roadway being heavily used by fire apparatus, sanitation trucks, school buses and other motorists, the repairs must be made as soon as possible to prevent further dangers to our community.

Future repairs to roads throughout the City of Emerado are in the planning phase and will commence in the near future in conjunction with City Water and City Sewer line replacements. At this time, it is not known when that project will begin as planning and funding is still in progress.

Stay tuned for updates in the future!
