Emergency Storm Kits
5/21/2025
Mother Nature can be wildly unpredictable, whether you live in an area prone to storms or not. With that said, the climate you live in should be used as guidance for customizing an emergency kit. When creating a storm kit, you’ll also need to consider all household members (e.g. babies, seniors, people with specific health issues, and pets). In addition to kits, experts recommend having a contingency plan in place. It’s important to identify a safe place to go if power or heat goes out during storms, as well as a few people you can rely on. This is even more important for individuals with chronic health and mobility issues. Establishing a personal network is as integral to surviving severe weather as keeping all the right supplies in a convenient place. Here in Emerado, our fine school is our designated storm shelter, and will be open during certain events. Listen for the sirens, and watch for the Police and Fire Departments for guidance!

9/14/2024
Beginning Monday, September 16th, Grand Forks County, in conjunction with Schmitz Inc will be starting culvert project at the intersection of Grand Forks County Road 3 and East Emery Ave in Emerado, ND. The project will consist of removal and disposal of the existing wood culvert extensions currently in place. This will prepare the location for Schmitz Inc. to install two 5 feet by 5-foot precast concrete culvert extensions and installation of a 60" smooth wall steel pipe inside the existing 72"CPM. Schmitz Inc will also install two 8 feet by 8-foot precast concrete box culvert extensions and compact the foundation. To complete this project, channel bottom excavation will be required, meaning the removal of materials from the location which could increase capacity and possibly help alleviate flooding or alternately, stagnation and sediment buildup in the channel.
